The Sabotage 3A Metro wrestlers impressed again this weekend. Starting with the Freshman 113lb wrestler from Eastside Catholic, Matt Iwicki, who pinned his way through the regional tournament, spending only :12 seconds on the mat in the finals. Don’t blink if you intend to watch Matt wrestle. He’s been on a mission from day one that has landed him, as a Freshman, at the Big Dance next weekend at the Tacoma Dome. Go Matt!

Jesse Marek, Blachett High School’s 126lber also had an impressive showing. He had two pins on the day, one coming in only :34 seconds. In the finals, Jesse pinned Sophomore Steven Edson in 4:43. Jesse’s a Junior and he’s headed to the Washington State Wrestling Championship. Congratulation, Jesse!

Also from Blanchett High School, Senior Peter Johnson, the 195lb wrestler, making his Senior year one to remember. Peter had a Bye in the first round, a decisive 7-0 win in the second round and finished the day with a pin in the finals against Joe Stoutt in 3:05 to seal the deal and give him the title of 4A Region II Champion.

Congratulations to our 3A Metro Sabotage wrestlers! Your hard work and dedication has paid off. We’ll be following you next weekend at the biggest and best high school wrestling tournament under one roof! “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” These wrestlers have put in the preparation and now is their opportunity! Good Luck, Matt, Marek and Peter! We’ll be cheering for you!

Wow! It was an exciting weekend of wrestling as Washington State High School wrestlers entered the post season of wrestling in their league tournaments. Sabotage Wrestling Academy had two wrestlers who won the title of Outstanding Wrestler and had 6 Champions a finalist and a 3rd place finisher.

Ryan Christensen, the 160lb Sophomore wrestler from Woodinville High School, had two first period pins, three pins on the day and a technical fall in the finals with an impressive score of 25-8 and title of Champion. His technique and skill on the mat was evident in the finals as he took his opponent down and released him at will throughout the first period.

Equally impressive is Matt Iwicki, the 113lb wrestler from Eastside Catholic. Matt spend a combined total of 2:32 minutes on the mat throughout the entire tournament on his way to a 3A Metro Championship title. Matt received a bye in the first round, pinned his 2nd round opponent in :23 seconds, pinned his 3rd round opponent in an impressive :15 seconds and had a first period fall in the finals. Both of these wrestler received the Outstanding Wrestler Award. What’s more impressive is this award is usually given to a Senior. Ryan is a Sophomore and Matt is only a Freshman. These two young men are not only incredible wrestlers but excel in the classroom, as well. Matt Iwicki is a 4.0 student who spent the day after the Metro tournament playing soccer for his outdoor team and later in the day, his indoor team. Ryan Christensen carries a 3.9. Ryan has a twin brother who play soccer as a goalie for the U17 US Boys National team in Florida.

Sabotage had several wrestlers who made us proud in the 4A Kingco tournament. Senior wrestler AJ Dedios, 120lb wrestler from Woodinville brought home a Championship title with a 9-1 win over #2 seed Mitchell Barker of Inglemoor making him a 2X Kingco Champion. AJ had two pins on the day. Senior Jake Hollister also had two pins on his way to a Kingco 220lb Championship title beating #1 seed by a fall in the the finals. Senior wrestler Jason Bourroughs finished off the 4A Kingco League tournament with a first place medal and 2X Kingco Championship title.

Sophomore 132lb Everett Bingisser from Woodinville High School entered the Varsity tournament as an unseeded wrestler. Everett made it to the finals match and wrestled the #1 seeded wrestler, Alman Thorpe from Issaquah. Everett fought hard through the first two rounds keeping the score close before losing by fall in the third round. Zach Gracia, 126lb Sophomore from Woodinville High School was the #3 seeded wrestler. Zach wrestled the #1 seeded wrestler Jacob Sands from Roosevelt. He fought a hard battle but ended in a 1-2 defeat.

In the Wesco 4A league, Senior Max Welch from Mariner High School had a great start to the day winning in the first round by pin and Technical Fall against his second round opponent. Max beat his third round opponent 9-2 before falling in the Semi-final round to Drew Hatch of Marysville, the eventual 145lb Champion. Max fought his way back through the consolation round to secured a 3rd place finish with an 18-7 finish over Austin Gershmel of Lake Stevens.

In the 3A Metro battle, Blanchett’s 195lb wrestler Peter Johnson also proved wrestling in the off season pays off. Peter had a bye in the first round. Peter pinned his second round opponent in :35 seconds, his third round opponet in 1:55. He sealed his Championship title with another fall in 4:42 in the finals against Jo Stout from Eastside Catholic. Also from Blanchett, Jesse Marek, the #1 seeded wrestler in the 126lb weight class impressed with a 4-0 record for the day which included a :40 second fall and a major decision in the finals against Justin Phillips of ODea.

Conner Small wrestled at the 3A Kingco tournament. Conner is a Freshman from Liberty High School wrestling in the 138lb weight class. After his first round bye, Conner pin his way through the tournament and landed on top the podium with a first place medal and Championship title.

And representing the 2A Cascade League from Cedarcrest High School is Carlos Toledano. Carlos is a Junior and was seeded in the #1 position. In the finals, Carlos wrestled Moses Sun from Granite Falls to a decisive 15-3 major decision.

Congratulation to all our Sabotage wrestlers and good luck to you at your Regional tournaments!
